Bear with me as I set the scene for my question. I currently work as a Public Affairs professional for a government agency in Canada. I’ve been doing this since my graduation from post-secondary, 5 years ago. As my daily interactions with the Marketing world increases, I find myself pulled more and more to the Marketing side of things. Furthermore, I find myself drawn towards the private sector. I have a plethora of interests. I love storytelling (a part of my current job role). I’m a sport (mostly soccer and tennis) fanatic. I study and blog about wine. My family just started a winery. The idea of being able to help businesses grow through marketing excites me. As such, I’ve begun looking at academic programs which would help propel me into the marketing world. My question to you is do I go for the academic route through a MSc in Marketing, or do I take a more hands-on approach through a Certificate in Digital Marketing? In short, I feel like the certificate would give me the short-term ability to market and build a brand through SEO, analytics, etc., however if I want to make it into the upper echelons of the corporate world, an MSc in Marketing is the way to go. I’d love your thoughts on this! – by /hq/remyletigre – –
