Background: I am a 25 year old who just finished up his second degree. I work full time as a nurse and am in graduate school to be a nurse practitioner. I make a comfortable amount for my lifestyle but by no means am I floating in money, hence why I can treat myself to daily coffee and lunch.
I’m a big foodie and self diagnosed caffeine addict. Every day I go to the same coffee shop for coffee and usually the same 2-3 places for lunch. The workers always recognize me and know my order and are very friendly. My orders are pretty cheap: $2.50 coffee and $7 sandwich. Each place has a tip jar at the register and I always feel like a jerk for not tipping even though I know my business contributes to keeping them in business since they’re small family owned.
Am I in the wrong for not tipping or am I overthinking? If I tipped each day at both shops I’d be putting out an extra $20 a week which adds up over time.
