I work for a 200+ person well funded startup that probably won’t make it on its own but will likely be bought out by one of many big competitors. This is reason enough to hang on as long as possible I think, given the equity I have. However, the kids running the show have acted like a cat chasing a laser pointer for quite some time and a restructuring took place a few months ago to help focus certain groups. I was bumped up to my first managerial position as a benefit. I am loving it and have been praised for how I handled to transition from co-worker to boss for my team. Now, the CEO has stepped aside to bring in a seasoned vet in the industry (great move I think!). He promptly fired my direct report (V.P.) and I was told I would be reporting to another guy (not a replacement for the V.P.) who has a job description that sounds just like mine. When I said it sounded like a demotion I was told, “don’t think of it like that.” Well that sounds like I’m back to co-worker status as of the end of this week. If this is the case, no one is telling me I did a bad job but I’m losing my position. I feel on principle I should leave. No? I may feel overly hurt after being recognized for the 100+ hr weeks, all nighters, literally 1/4 of the year on another continent with toddlers running around my house and then having it snatched away for a reason I can’t understand. – by hq overview RBbugBITme – –
