I have a couple of items that I know would sell reasonably if I found a manufacturer for them, but I’ve never done that before. Online search revealed a few manufacturers in the materials I need in my area, but I’m not sure what is the “correct” way to contact them and find out if they really can do my job. I’m likely doubting myself because I used to watch the tv show The Profit (great show!) where the host seemed to know everybody and hooked his show guests up exactly the right manufacturer right off the bat. I’m sure they had to call around and maybe talk to them but that all happened off screen. So for those of you who have done this, can you describe your experience? How many shops did you have to talk to before you found the right one? Do you think I can email or talk to them on the phone, send them a sample item with a detailed description of the work I need, or is it better/safer to go see them in person? I know I’ll have to pay machine setup cost and likely a little time for design work in addition to my first batch, so I’m not asking about pricing. Just how to find the right one to work with and get the process going. If it helps, I’m looking at small batch manufacturing. – by hq overview JcWoman – –
