I have a 3 year old female cockapoo (10 or so lbs). As a puppy we had a senior dog and her playful nature clashed with his calm demeanor. They would always fight over food dropped on the floor and overall got nasty with each other. My senior dog has since passed of old age but she can’t seem to get along with any dogs. From what I observe, she has issues with personal space (doesn’t like when dogs get too close when sniffing). The only time she acts good with other dogs is when we’re in an open space at the park and she’s busy playing with her ball or when dealing with my best friends dog. My best friend has a standard poodle who was already large by the time she had met with my (at the time) puppy. They got along but my dog got afraid by the standard poodle’s running and she was soon stepped on a lot very fast. I quickly pulled her out of the situation but I think she knows not to mess with that dog. Yet she still seems keen to fight 2 pitbulls across the street. Did this small incident make her fear big dogs? Was I overprotective? Is there any way I could get my dog to enjoy the company and maybe even play with other dogs at her age? I don’t often use reddit so I’m sorry if this is formatted weird or I asked in the wrong place.
