I’ve been considering opening my own child care center and all I keep hearing is that daycares “don’t make a lot of money.” But how much money is “not a lot?” Obviously I know it depends on your location and lots of other factors. But here’s the thing. I don’t even want to make “a lot” of money. Honestly, all I want to do is pay my bills on time every month, pay off some debt, save for retirement. You know. Nothing crazy. The other thing I really want is to have another child. We have a 2.5 year old right now and there is no way we can even afford for me to take a maternity leave at this point, let alone paying for childcare for 2 kids. I’m a pediatric OT so I know a lot about child development and school readiness. I’ve worked in birth-three, preschool, and with school age kids. I make a decent wage but with our debt it’s just not enough to pay everything and save at this point. My caseload varies so much and I’m at the mercy of my clients cancellations, which happens a ton. We also make too much to qualify for government assistance. Am I crazy for considering this? Is there any way to find out how much daycares/preschools actually make in my area? – by hq overview malabriga_08 – –
