So, there was a post here named “Mediocre SEO Starter Pack”. It featured all of the typical stuff like Neil Patel’s blog and whatnot. It also featured the text “No follow links are completely worthless”. Being a starter pack of course, that is implying that no follow links are **not** worthless.

I haven’t had a plan for nofollow links. They just roll in when they roll in. Do you folks actually have a plan for gaining nofollow links? And how would you know that your efforts from that actually help your rankings?

    Sort of?

A lot of PR is going to be nofollow. And you better bet we have a branding plan, outreach to major publications, outreach to tv programs, etc.

We got mentioned in USA Today. That was nofollow. But it was the result of PR.

I have never actively pursued links because they were nofollow. Anyone that says you need to have nofollow links in your link profile to look “natural” has no idea what they are talking about, and even if you do believe that idea, you will get plenty of them, whether you want them or not, just from scraper sites out there.

*No Follow* Links are totally worth it. One, they help build up a reputation for Google because its publicity of your domain name. Two, a lot of those news stories on Yahoo or MSN go to other websites via a feed and convert over to *Do Follow* links. This is the biggest benefit I feel of *No Follow*, they convert to *Do Follow* on smaller websites. Now, of course there is no guarantee of this happening, but it’s the story I hear over and over again from other bloggers.

I can’t confirm, but I remember reading nofollow links help with local SEO. I can try to find the source.
