My friend is a US citizen who runs a small tech consulting business in the US and he wants to extend business in Canada. He wants to hire me. I am living in Vancouver as a (new) Canadian Permanent Resident. He won’t be moving to Canada. How would he go about incorporating it in a less expensive way? We won’t be opening a physical office location unless it’s required for incorporation and not expensive. He can use my Vancouver address or the address of my family member in Ontario if that can be a cheaper alternative.
What I have found out so far:
Federal incorporation costs ~$200, but it requires registering in the province (Extra-provincial). BC has a hefty fees (Vs $0 in Ontario) for registering in the province, so it might be cheaper to incorporate provincially in BC rather than incorporating Federally. But (not absolutely sure), BC requires a physical office location and does not accept residential address. Also, to establish a Canadian affiliate for a US business, I am not sure if Provincial incorporation would work.
