I have been running a UX/UI design agency for just over a year and things are going from strength to strength. We are close to hitting our first £20,000 month this month. In light of that I want to take on my first employee. This is a contractor I have worked with on every project for the last year and a half and who constantly steps up to the plate, smashed it out of the park and my clients sing their praises of all the time. My vision and based on the conversations I have had with her, is for us to employ her full time but also create some kind of deal where she can earn a share of the business by hitting certain targets. These shares ideally would vest over time or on completion of the goal. I am and have been mentoring her closely giving her more responsibility as she grows with the aim of handing over the reins in about 4 years for her to run whilst I focus on some other projects I have in mind. I have no idea what kind of contract this is, or even who I would speak to, to get that kind of advice! How much is a fair % to give away. I don’t want a co-founder at this point, she’s too junior for that responsibility but I do want to give her a share in our success and an incentive to stay. – by /hq/Supersubie – –
