I often hear people who work in advertising say the industry is small and word gets around fast. How small are we talking about here? Is it city specific, is it role/l or department specific? After almost a year of job search, I find myself I working in a large ad adgency in a major western US city. I accepted the offer for an entry level role because no one else extended an offer and getting some form of income is better than $0. I do enjoy the role I’m in, problem is I feel underpaid for the level of experience and work ethic I bring. I have more than 3 years of related creative industry experience but not ad agency specific experience. I tried negotiating higher and they told me their offer was already higher than most entry levels coming in. I’ve also had my X monthly reviews and feedback has been great. There’s an agreement that I exceed the expectations of the role. I haven’t been working at this agency for more than a year and now recruiters have been messaging me if I’m interested in other/higher roles. A part of me wants to seriously consider the recruiters because I do want a higher income and a higher role, but at the same time, having word of me jumping shops quickly scares me. I often hear people say “everyone knows everyone” in this industry. So, how “small” is the ad industry? Do people/recruiters hold it against you for switching jobs quickly? Should I be patient, count my blessings and ride this out since I’m still happy in the role I’m in? – by hq overview neoazul – –
