If a person starts a private company are they required to have anyone in a director role?

This confuses me. Online it says private or public you have to have a director. If that’s the case can i be CEO and director? Why do i have to have one if it’s just me starting the business without any loans or debts, if i’m not selling shares? – by /hq/DesperateForHelp0000 – –
