Install issue (hostgator)

Hey guys, Non-technical person here. I want to start posting regularly again to my old blog leading up to the launch on an online course. I want to revamp it first as it currently looks terrible on mobile so I’ve been looking at new themes and I found one that I like. The problem is I wanted to customize it without it being live but when I logged into my hostgator account, I found out WordPress wasn’t even installed in the first place. (I’ve always posted directly through my admin panel on WordPress). I tried to install it but it feels like the steps are for setting up a new blog and I’m afraid I’m going to mess it up since the blog is already live. What are my options?
