Is there a way to find out if your 3rd level domain is being viewed as a separate site as your main domain?

Google has said that sometimes they see it as a different site and sometimes just like a folder – Been doing this for 18 years and realized that there is no way (that I know of) to find out for sure if sample.example.com is seen as a different site as example.com – by hq overview lonewolf-chicago – –
