I’m about to join a new startup as their first engineering hire. The CTO has no prior software engineering experience but has done a remarkable job bootstrapping their platform with React and Firebase. However, they have no CI/CD pipeline, unit or integration tests, or even an issue/project tracker. Obviously we’ll need to start using a project tracker so we can prioritize and distribute work amongst us… but should I also push for us to go back and write tests so we can do CI/CD? Or should I just suggest we do that going forward? Or is that not really a thing at startups? All of my prior experience is with large companies and legacy API maintenance. For what it’s worth, the startup I’m joining isn’t really pivoting anymore as it seems they have market validation with their current product offering(s). – by hq overview equal_odds – –
