I’ve been asked to remove some unrequired scripts from a site running the OceanWP theme. To do this I need access to a functions.php file in a child theme, however, this site doesn’t have a child theme installed. On logging in it’s also showing the warning ‘This theme recommends the following plugin: Elementor’. I’ve installed a child theme (and tweaked it to call the original styles.css script from the parent theme), but this has seemingly broken things fairly badly. The logo is no longer displaying, the menu is no longer hidden in a hamburger etc. After some digging it looks like the ‘customize’ settings under ‘Appearance > customize’ have all reset with the child theme (swapping back to the main theme re-instates them). So two questions. One, is it possible to keep all existing theme customize settings when migrating to a child theme? Second question – Am I approaching this incorrectly? I’m surprised that there isn’t already a child theme installed which makes me think I’m missing something here. – by hq overview FEEBLE_HUMANS – –
