I don’t want to bore anyone so I will keep it simple, I went full blown manic and spent considerable time working on my website / web project, however my search traffic is at a complete stand still. I’ve followed practically every SEO guide there is, the only thing I can think of is that my pages are not that old, I don’t have many backlinks, and I previously used the domain name to develop websites for my clients, some of those pages got picked up my google which I had to manually request removal for. As of now the website loads in 500 miliseconds and has just under 1200 words, following guidelines for some bits of microdata, h tags, ect.

I often feel for the people I see spending thousands of dollars and struggling to drive traffic, and here I’ve hardly spent anything and already feel like shit.

Can anyone shed some light on this?

UPDATE: Today (12/23/2019) I have managed to go from page 12 to page 7 without changing anything since this post apart from building 3 more back links of low quality. Not sure if it was the time, the backlinks or both but I am going to work on building high quality backlinks and be more patient. Thanks for the insight

What time-frame are we speaking off?

Competition of the terms you’re trying to achieve?

How many links did you build & what kind?

    1.200 words is total, so a one-pager?

Is the new niche a lot different to web dev?

Based on your description, it could be that your domain is blacklisted or being penalized or something. Maybe check Google Search Console for any manual actions or something?

Check GSC and see if you got any manual actions against the site.

New site; few backlinks; domain used to be something else; sounds like that about explains it.

I think maybe read some more SEO guides.

    > On page 12 of google for low competition keyword

It’s possible that nobody is looking for what you have.

Low competition keywords are typically that way because nobody is interested in them.

“and I previously used the domain name to develop websites for my clients, some of those pages got picked up my google which I had to manually request removal for. ”

    This I would investigate further

Timeframe matters a lot. How long ago did it get indexed?

Is there any substantial search volume you target that warrants a slice of that traffic?

Also …create a “google my business” account for it…that throws it up on first page quick. If it is the kind of website for that anyway ….

PM me your domain name if you wish and I will run some crawls for you to see if there are any major issues.

It sounds like you have a one-page design. There’s often not enough content depth with a single-page website to rank for anything and search engine bots will tend to think your user behavior metrics are terrible when users can’t access any other pages (100% bounce rate).
