So, I thought I would share the little journey of my clothing brand for now to maybe help out someone out there thinking about starting. My clothing line started in October, its Viking themed art so I was told right away at the time to stay away because it was a saturated market with a few big companies out there dominating the market, but I went for it anyway because I thought I could do it better and I just wanted to give it a try. I did some research and still made mistakes along the way (will get back on them), I started writing down lists of what type of designs I wanted, commission some artist to make them using my paycheck from my job, it wasn’t expensive, about 50 USD per designs and I would just get two at a time every week, I found shopify and integrated with Printful since I didn’t have much money up front. Printful is easy to set up and you don’t really have to do much except marketing and customer service. So I was ready to launch! Printful is easy to set up and you don’t really have to do much except marketing and customer service. So I was ready to launch! I didn’t make much sales after friends and family had bought theirs, maybe 2 sales a month all the way until end of December 2019 and my focus was only on building the brand, research the competition, networking and having a community. Feedback was people loved the designs, but I suspected it was the shipping times and the prices I had to have to make a profit with Printful that scared them off, and after reflecting on it I agreed, Printful has to long time between fulfillment and shipping most of the time (before x-mas it was great TBH) but generally most of my customers had to wait 15-20 days before getting the shirts which I thought was unacceptable even tough the quality from Printful has been great. So in December I bought a screen printing set and bought 50 eco shirts to print some of the designs myself, watched TONS of screen printing videos, read books and everything, probably wasted 15 shirts by messing it up but that’s fine, in my mind I know it will take 1-2 years to build a brand where you cant expect to make much money so I am aware of the fall pits. HOWEVER, once I started publishing the sustainable shirts, on the 10th of January it all went crazy, my conversion rate went to 3.82% on average until today (16th Jan) one day it was even 12%. Traffic from Instagram has gone up 198% and I sold out almost all of my stock, have like 4 shirts left in total. I still have about 70% of the designs from Printful but moving over to do them all myself by end of March. Even thought this might just be a lucky spike, it does tell me that people like the designs and what I’m doing is the correct course for the future. Still not running any ads either and my SEO is horrible. Focus ahead is to optimise SEO and try to learn a bit more about that, maybe fixing the web page as well. If anyone is starting out, let me know, would love to hear your journey as well! – by /hq/RotoTom85 – –
