Prefix: I’m a developer and a business owner. I hire developers and work with them daily. You are wasting your money if you are expecting one of these “Hacker Schools” to teach you to be a developer. Everything you need to learn how to program is available either for free online, or a small monthly subscription. If you can’t learn programming being self-taught, then you’re already going to fail. 80% of being a developer is figuring out how to do something on your own. Your team is there to get you pointed in the right direction, but they have work to do to. Programming languages also change. I’m mostly programming JavaScript these days, but 5 years ago it was Ruby, and 5 years before that it was Perl. When times change, you need to teach yourself these new languages. Being a programmer boils down to one thing. You have to love it. If you don’t love it, it will be hard and you’ll quit. – by hq overview chrisblackwell – –
