Very new to WP and websites. I built my website, [www.photo-brady.com](https://www.photo-brady.com), and got hosting(siteground) and domain name(godaddy) with black friday deals last year. However with renewal happening, I don’t want to pay full price. Siteground black friday deals are only for new services. Would I be able to transfer to a different hosting service to take advantage of black friday deals happening? How does that work? Thanks!

I’ve just migrated a site from one server to another. Took less than ten minutes. I used All in One WP Migration. Install the plugin on current site, click export to file, download. Install wordpress on your new server, and install the plugin on the new server. Also install All in One WP Migration Extension. Click import backup file. Confirm permalinks. Site migrated. Then just change your DNS to point your domain name to the new site. Note – is only free as long as your site backup is less than 512mb.

Very simply, transfer info from old host to new host, but the details are messy; you can get plugins to “clone” a site from one host to another, and then update your domain name record at GoDaddy to point to the new hosts IP address in stead of the original. Best idea – some host companies will do the ‘heavy lifting’ to move your data for you as a part of a new account – I believe DreamHost does this for one. Abracadabra all done.

I have migrated about 7 WordPress sites from one hosting provider to another and it is almost always a pain in the butt. I’ve never tried it with Dreamhost, but your WP dashboard should give you an option to export your site, which you would then import to your new one. This works for me about 20% of the time, but there’s always a bunch of manual transfer that I had to do too.

If you use web hosting, plugins help you only(e.g. Duplicator). If you use VPS, do a backup and move it.

A lot of hosts, including the one I work for, offer free migrations. But there is a very good plugin for WordPress called All In One WP Migration. You can just export your entire WP site and then import it into to a fresh WP install at your new host. Then you just point your domain to the new nameservers (login to GoDaddy to do that), and everything from your WP site should be exactly as it was at the old host.

But if you have cPanel, you can also go into Backups and generate full cPanel backup. You can download this file, and then when you purchase a new host with a cPanel, you can import that full cPanel backup, and all of your configurations will come with you from the old host.

Good luck! There’s a lot of different ways you can migrate your website over to a new host.

Yes you can buy new hosting and transfer the site. How it works it simple really. If you pick a new host offering free migration or migration plugin then they will take care of the website. To migrate yourself you need WP installed on the new server and you can use one of numerous migration plugins to move it. Are you using email on SiteGround? Migration of emails is not as straightforward.
