Hey, I’m making a website for someone, and I’m doing it on my own domain and account first then I wanted to transfer it over. Is it possible to do? Would it look exactly the same once transferred? How could I even do it? Cheers in advance!

I’ve always used the Duplicator plugin for this. Works very well.

It is easy to do and you generally only need the wordpress database and files(wp-content folder), although you do need to update some database fields to account for the new domain.

I usually do this as part of the launch, as it only takes me a few minutes and I can guarantee the site is setup/working correctly before I hand off the keys. The only time I don’t is when their tech staff is super hands on and even in those cases, unless they are wordpress-savvy, I’ll usually end up doing a screenshare or something on their computer.

If you were to hand it off to them, just the files/database, you would want to prepare/test the database for the new domain. You can do this by editing your host file to temporarily(and locally only) point the new domain at your webserver.

Way easier to build it locally (your computer) than over the web. I use valet and use Git for version control on my theme, or Roots Trellis site. I really recommend WP DB Migrate Pro to sync databases between local/staging/production sites.
