So my first job out of college was for a start up as a social media manager. I enjoyed the work and my coworkers minus the CEO. When it was all said and done I had to walk away still owed $12,000. I was young and naïve and trusted he was going to follow through when he said checks will come week after week. Had to deal with lawyers and in the end I was told it’s not worth going after. That was 3 years ago. I currently work for a “real” company as a marketing specialist. I also do freelance digital marketing for a couple companies. I’m about to move cross country with my girlfriend and since my job has always been in-office I will have to leave it. Now I have a startup who is very eager to hire me as the marketing manager. I will be the sole marketer which I enjoy. I like wearing many hats and building from the ground up. This startup, unlike the last, has a finished product in the market. The employee who I have been chatting with let me know that there is some risk involved because it is a startup. My question is has anyone had completely pleasant startup experiences? This job is a step up from what I’m doing now and the salary is about $10k more. I also really like the industry and product. I’m currently thinking it’s a good move so I can be employed remotely as I make this big move. I’ve had no luck getting anywhere with jobs in the new city I’m moving to being on the other side of the country. If this ends up falling through I’ll be settled in my new city and able to really begin job searching in the area. If it ends up working out even better. Does anyone have and advice or tips? Thanks. – by /hq/lucidlights – –
