So, apple introduced the heic format for iOS 10 or 11 about two years ago and it isn’t compatible with most/all of the existing image processing tools that web servers and browsers use. Apple products also don’t respect the input file restriction of “image/jpeg” only and will allow users to shove HEIC files into your system. How have all of you been dealing with this for the past two years? I just came across this problem and don’t really see a clear path to success. Not only are the tools not ready, but there appear to be patent issues, too, so there would be no FOSS way to process HEIC files. There also doesn’t appear to be a way to detect the HEIC files from the browser to notify the user that my server can’t handle their HEIC and allow them to convert it. I’m not seeing as much noise as I would expect for an issue that seems this ridiculous from apple. Any thoughts? Am I missing something? – by hq overview 8solutions – –
